Does sharing about dairy online really make a difference?

A question I have been asked and asked myself more times than I care to admit. Recently I did see the power of social media in a TikTok trend.

Let’s go back to last year when the entire world was obsessed with a pasta TikTok recipe featuring tomatoes and feta cheese. To most people, this was just another trend that came and went. Have you ever wondered about the power that a social media trend holds? Time to break down precisely what that feta pasta recipe did for the dairy industry.

That viral sensation had a MASSIVE impact on feta sales. Here are the numbers for feta sales for the month of the viral video. The volume of feta cheese sold grew by 67% compared to the year before, and that growth is roughly a gain of 1.5 million pounds of feta cheese. 

Back to my question of does sharing about dairy make a difference.

Well, I think the sales numbers of feta gave me my answer. Whether we are sharing our favorite dairy recipe or farm fact, it has an impact. No matter the size of our audience social media gives us the power to find people who want to listen. No matter if you have 5 followers or 500,000 we need to share our industry with the world.
